Many people worship shiva and perform rituals but the fact is most of them don’t even know the meaning of the word Shiva.
The meaning of Shiva is an auspicious one.
Today in this article we will cover some very commonly seen Shiva attributes but rarely understood one’s.
- Half open eyes- Shiva’s half open eyes is the sign of universe cycle in process. On the other hand if his eyes are fully closed then it is a symbol of destruction of the universe, and completely open eyes signify the beginning of new creation cycle.
- Jota (matted hair) – Shiva is also known pashupatinath, it is because he is also known as the lord of wing and his long jatas (matted hair) represents it.
- Tiger skin- Shiva is often seen meditating on tiger skin or wearing it sometimes in pictures. Tiger represents Shakti (power) and lust. Shiva is beyond any power and lust and sitting on tiger skin shows that he has conquered both lust and power fully.
- Trishul (trident) – A trishul (trident) has three teeth as suggested by name and each of the teeth is a symbol of fundamental power. Three powers are will, action and knowledge. As you think, you’ll realize that if anybody conquers these three skills (will, action and power) he has in a way conquered life and can have anything he desire. The trident also is used as a weapon by the lord Shiva to punish evil people.
